Miriam Kragness

Miriam Kragness has been consulting with and training leaders for over 20 years, as a manager with Ernst and Young LLC and as president of her own company, ROI Consultants, Inc. She has worked with a broad range of clients in the U.S. and Europe, including Honeywell, Control Data, Shell Oil, Commercial Credit Co., First Bank System, the Mayo Clinic, and major hospitals, universities, and government centers. She has worked with consultants in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Australia, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Italy, Mexico, and Argentina to adapt U.S. training tools to the language and culture of each country. She takes pleasure in acknowledging the number of small businesses, nonprofits, and professional associations with which she has also worked.

In 1993 she published the Dimensions of Leadership Profile, which broke new ground in representing leadership as a process, not a set of traits. Supported by scientific research, this contribution is widely cited today in classrooms, lectures, publications, and on the Internet, along with her research on creative teamwork, interactive listening, and adult learning styles. More recent work has focused on strengthening the role and responsibilities of followers and in explaining leadership effectiveness across multicultural boundaries.

Dr. Kragness has presented frequently at conferences in the U.S. and abroad on subjects as diverse, for example, as the benefits and risks of corporate downsizing (Offshore Northern Seas Conference - Norway), the distinction between leadership and management (MLP - Stockholm), leading change (ASTD - San Diego), and the contribution of outcome research to human resource development (Discover - Denmark). She has also spent time in the classroom teaching industrial and organizational psychology.

Dr. Kragness has an M.A. in counseling and a PhD in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Minnesota, U.S. Her undergraduate work is in English literature and sociology.
