Claudia MeiLing Chang
Claudia MeiLing Chang is an independent consultant focusing on the areas of intercultural communications and international program development, coordination and learning. Experienced in the private, academic and non profit sectors, Ms Chang has a regional focus on Asia and China.
Ms. Chang has more than 15 years of experience working with organizations such as the United Nations, CARE International, CNN, the School for International Training and a number of universities in the US and Asia. She has work experience in more than 15 countries. Ms. Chang is also a consultant to the global UN programs on conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation and is a trainer for the ethics and integrity program at UNOG (UN offices at Geneva)
In the areas of program development, coordination and organizational learning, Ms. Chang has direct experience in negotiating, overseeing and closing out multi sectoral humanitarian and development grants at the country office and regional levels, worth more than $35m and funded through multiple donors with complex agendas. These contracts have included countries in conflict and transition such as Tajikistan and Indonesia; in 1999 she was deployed to Albania during the Balkans crisis. Ms. Chang continues to apply her facilitation skills across her program and learning work at the project and regional level. Her program experience also includes work in resource mobilization, change and performance management, program information analysis and more recently, leading a multi phase broad analysis of China’s development trends at the country and regional level.
In the areas of intercultural communications and facilitation, Ms. Chang has worked to design and deliver numerous training and learning programs on conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation in emergencies as well as managing for diversity, results based feedback and reflective listening. She began her trainings in the area of HIV/AIDS education for international students in the US and while working in journalism developed programs for writing and communicating across cultures. These trainings have combined practical application tools with sound research based teachings to support structured and results based learning and behavior change.
A certified mediator, Ms. Chang received her MA in International and Chinese Studies from the University of Washington/Seattle and resides in France, just outside of Geneva, Switzerland.
