The 13 categories, including strategy, business case, leadership, recruitment, communication, product development, measurement, training, social responsibility, and supplier diversity, apply to all sectors and sizes of organizations and communities. For each category, the Benchmarks are divided into five levels that indicate progress toward the best practices in that category – from 0 percent (where no work has begun) to 25, 50, 75 and then on to the current global best practices at 100 percent.
Users of the 2006 Global Diversity and Inclusion Benchmarks state that the Benchmarks have helped them assess and measure progress in leveraging diversity and fostering inclusion and, thereby, improve the quality of their work and results.
The history behind these Benchmarks goes back to Bench Marks for Diversity, which was first published by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in the early 1990s based on groundbreaking research.
